Drug Addiction

Most people associate addictions with drug dependencies. There are many different types of drugs with more becoming available over time.  Certain substances that today are being used recreationally, have never been used in such manners before. For example, there has been a huge spike in prescription drug use. Also, Ketamine a horse tranquilizer, is being abused at growing rates as well. The particular drug addictions we will explore in this section include alcohol (yes alcohol is a drug), cocaine, coffee, marijuana, methamphetamines, nicotine, opiates, prescription medications, steroids and Vicodin.

Alcohol:
Alcohol is one of the most abused drugs in the world. Because it is legal, many people mistakenly accept the notion that it is harmless. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Alcohol use and addiction can cause physical illness, accidents and even death.

Cocaine: Cocaine is often referred to as a party drug. However, the party stops once a person develops an addiction to it.
 
Coffee: Coffee is a brew, served both hot and cold around the world. It is a stimulant and often times used to energize the user. It is also potentially addicting.
 
Marijuana:
Marijuana is a mixture of cannabis flowers and stems. It is most often smoked. While many people view marijuana as harmless and non-addicting, this isn’t true. It is psychologically addicting and poses a number of health risks if used chronically and for long periods of time.

Methamphetamine:
Methamphetamine is a potentially dangerous addiction. Its use is extremely damaging and those who develop a dependency on it, tend to degenerate at a rapid clip both physically, psychologically and emotionally.

Nicotine: Nicotine is a substance often found in cigarettes. It is extremely addicting, dangerous and many times is a major contributor to the death of those who consume it.

Opiates: Opiates are very powerful drugs derived from the poppy plant. They are often used in pain relievers which are amongst the most addictive prescription drugs in the United States. Heroin is also an opiate and abused a great deal as well.

Prescription Medications: Prescription drug addiction is on the rise and subsequently quite concerning for entire communities.

Steroids: Steroids aren’t just abused by athletes. “Weekend warriors” and those concerned about their appearance and with slowing down the aging process are using them as well.

Vicodin: Vicodin is a prescription pain medication that is heavily abused.
