Marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and ecstasy are the predominant drugs used and distributed throughout Florida. However diverted pharmaceuticals, LSD, GHB and Ketamine can also be found there as well and are fairly problematic. The most rising threat in terms of drug use are diverted pharmaceuticals. Dilaudid, Vicodin, Rohypnol, Xanax and Valium are the prescription drugs most abused, used either for nonmedical purposes or by persons who legitimately require the medication but who have developed an addiction to them.
Clubs drugs such as Ketamine, LSD and GHB are used mostly by teenagers and those in their early to mid-twenties. They are often purchased at clubs, raves, gyms, college and high school campuses, parties and even online.
Heroin use is quite problematic in the state. Persons addicted to Oxycontin are increasingly using heroin instead. Oxycontin can get expenses and it is also more difficult to obtain because it is a prescription drug. Heroin, on the other hand, is readily available and can be purchased from drug dealers quite easily.
Most of the major drugs that can be purchased can be obtained in Florida. Florida acts as both a consumption and distribution state. Drugs are sold there and also distributed to other states. Many come in from nearby islands and countries and are then shipped out along the eastern seaboard and within the region. Drugs may be brought in via boat, aircraft and various delivery services. Private and commercial vehicles, railcars and buses are used as well. Many of the drugs enter Florida and then are shipped to Atlanta and New York. The drugs seized most often include heroin, marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine.
