Specialized drug rehab may be a good option for persons addicted to a particular type of drug. Many rehabilitation programs will treat anyone that comes through their doors regardless of the particular drug they are addicted to. This type of treatment is often a good fit for individuals who have dependencies to more than one drug or the particular drug they are addicted to can be treated with basic cognitive behavioral therapy. Other drugs may necessitate that a person receive specialized and unique care. For example, individuals addicted to opiates may require detoxification or they may need to be administered certain drugs to lessen the severities of the withdrawals. Consequently, these person may opt for a drug rehab program with specializes in the treatment of opiate addicts.

Some rehabilitation facilities only offer care for a certain type of drug and this can be for many different reasons. Competition or the belief that a facility can provide better care by focusing on only one area of addiction may inspire some rehab facilities to specialize.
