Marijuana Mixing

February 6, 2010

Marijuana is commonly mixed with other drugs, largely because it is considered pretty safe to do so. It is not considered dangerous or risky. Drinking alcohol and smoking ‘pot’ is a common drug mix.  While a little bit of each may not have any negative effect, using too much of either or both, when combining the two can cause nausea and vomiting.

Many people combine marijuana with drugs, often times to dull the effects of stimulants. For example, a person may use it with cocaine or amphetamines (speed) in order to take the edge off of a high. Other times, people mix marijuana with other drugs in order to increase a certain effect. For example, when used with ecstasy, mushrooms or LSD, the effects might be more psychedelic or may more significantly alter the senses.

As stated above, marijuana is one of the least dangerous drugs to mix.  Depending on what other type of substance it is used with it, the effects will differ.  If a person smokes marijuana and takes cocaine or amphetamine, both which are stimulants, then it will likely take the edge off. While cocaine and amphetamines speed up the mind and stimulates the body, marijuana can do the opposite.  If individuals smoke marijuana or consume it in some other way for example, through food and also take mushrooms or ecstasy, it may exaggerate the psychedelic effects. This will of course depend on how a person reacts to mushrooms or ecstasy that they are taking.  Sometimes, these drugs can have a lot of effect and sometimes they don’t.  Therefore, an individual's attempt to mix them in an effort to create a more powerful psychedelic may fall flat.

Marijuana can be mixed with numerous drugs. There are some individuals that use marijuana in an effort to take edge off of ecstasy because ecstasy has stimulant properties which give users a lot of energy. Some people consume alcohol and marijuana at the same time.  This is a fairly popular mix amongst users. Generally combining the two will result in the effects of each drug being exaggerated.  It can be quite uncomfortable, however, if a person consumes too much of either substance.  They may become sick, start to vomit or experience nausea.  Short-term use of marijuana is not necessarily considered unsafe. It is not a very potent drug when compared to others such as crack, cocaine and heroin.  Therefore, it generally does not pose a risk to mix it with other drugs though it can sometimes cause discomfort.
