Marijuana is Absolutely Harmless

February 6, 2010

This is an extremely popular myth. Many marijuana users and those who support the legalization of it, often claim that it is harmless. This could not be further from the truth. Marijuana has lots of potential dangers and its’ use can cause a number of ailments, physical, mental and psychological. Let’s discuss the mental dangers first.

There is proof that chronic and/or long term marijuana abuse can either cause or exacerbate mental illness. There is some debate about whether it causes mental disorders or worsens them. Marijuana has been linked with psychosis and schizophrenia. It is also believed to be a neurotoxin, which means that it can cause brain damage.

Common physical dangers associated with marijuana use include increased risks of developing cancers due to the carcinogens in marijuana smoke.  Potential psychological dangers include paranoia and depression.

As you can see, marijuana is far from harmless and can cause a host of potential problems, many very serious.  For this reason, anyone with an addiction to marijuana, should take this seriously and seek help right away.
